Most of us start to panic when we realize that there is something wrong with our cars. The problem is that as most of us are pretty ignorant about what is going on under our hoods, we tend to panic and mostly, unnecessarily. The next 5 problems are ones that all drivers should be aware of.

The roads we drive on today are covered in debris, and this can easily get lodged in the tires making a horrible noise that sounds like it is coming from the engine. There are many causes for engine noise, you will need to take it to a mechanic is it is a persistent knocking which lasts for longer than a couple of days.

Another very common, but very annoying noise, is the squeak that emit from your breaks. Most drivers suffer from this at some time, and there are a few reasons for it. It could be vibrations between the rotors and the pads, the callipers and the pads or even the mount and the callipers.

The light that tells you to check the engine always comes on at the most inopportune times. This is a reminder that has been built into your car that lights up if the computer thinks there may be a problem with your emission system. Nine times out of ten it is nothing serious, but if it red and your car may need looking at immediately.

Your car will have a ‘check engine light’ and some of us don’t even know it is there until it lights up! This is the computer telling you of a possible problem. Most of the time this turns out to be nothing serious, but you should take it straight to a garage if the light is red.

Most of us at some time have had our car veer over to the side when we are driving. The most common reason for this is that the alignment is off and needs realigning. Tell the mechanic if it is veering to one side only or both sides.

When your super smooth car stops gliding and starts jumping it’s time to get a mechanic to check your shock absorbers and your struts.

Take your car to a mechanic as soon as this problem becomes apparent. If you take it quickly is should be fixed fairly easily, if not you could be facing a hefty bill for new struts and shocks.
